ABSTRACT |
This paper is one of the adsorption studies for the removal of benzene and phenol, which are major components in wastewater streams from chemical manufacturing industry. Equilibrium adsorption isotherm measurements at 303 ± 0.1 K were carried out for benzene, phenol and their mixtures on XAD-4 and Coal Char. The solute concentrations were in the range of 10 to 1000 ppm (10, 100, 500 and 1000 ppm, respectively), and the data fitted Freundlich type equilibrium relation. The mixture experimental data appeared to indicate that the adsorption of benzene and phenol proceed in a non-competitive manner. The results of equilibrium adsorption (static adsorption) and column adsorption (dynamic adsorption) experiments revealed that XAD-4 was a better adsorbent compared to Coal Char.
