ABSTRACT
Substrate interaction between benzene and toluene in the biodegradation by Alcaligenes xylosoxidans Y234 was analyzed using orthogonal array table, a kind of experimental design. It showed that the effect of benzene on toluene degradation was about twice as high as that of toluene on benzene degradation. Also, overall degradation properties were found to be dominated by benzene. The equations based on the orthogonal array table predicted the degradation behaviors of benzene and toluene well.
