ABSTRACT
Among various control technologies for safe operation of the activated sludge process a stable loading control technique was proposed, where an on-line respiration meter was applied. The on-line respiration meter can measure the actual respiration of activated sludge in the aeration tank, which is a function of the loading rate. One can control the loading rate by changing the influent flow rate according to the varied actual respiration rate. In this research the loading control system was investigated at a field-scale petrochemical wastewater treatment plant The relationship between loading rate and respiration rate was linealized and determinated by a self-calibration method. The field experiments demonstrated that the loading rate was maintained stable within relative variation of ±10%.
